The Hiring Process

Applications are accepted online at cityofhenderson.com when a recruitment opens.  Once your application is reviewed, Human Resources will provide notification if you are invited to participate in the written exam.

Testing Process

Appointment to the position and entry into the HFD Cadet Academy is subject to the successful completion of:


  1. -Written exam

  2. -Oral Board Interview

  3. -Selection Interview

  4. -Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

  5. -Medical Examination

  6. -City-paid Drug and Alcohol Test

  7. -Background Investigation

  8. -Psychological Evaluation

Explorer Program

If you are aged 15 to 21, you may be interested in our Explorer Program.  Participants in the program learn about fire and EMS-related topics, both in the classroom and on the drill ground.  This group meets on Thursday nights (excluding holidays) from 4:30-9:30 p.m. at the Fire Training Center.  Please click here for more information.
